Important Considerations When UsingSpecialty Greases

Issuing time:2025-02-02 22:57

Specialty greases are widely used incomponents such as drive gears, belt pulleys, guide devices, transmissionchains, high-temperature and high-speed bearing systems, quick reducers, metalgears, and gear racks to provide lubrication, reduce friction, and minimizenoise. However, there are several important factors to consider when usingspecialty greases.

1. Avoid Mixing Different Types, Models, and New/Old Greases

Different types or models of greases mayhave varying chemical compositions or performance characteristics. Mixing themcan result in poor lubrication or even damage to the equipment. Therefore, itis essential to avoid mixing different types of grease, especially whenreplacing the grease. Thoroughly remove the old grease before adding the newone.

2. Prevent Cross-Contamination of OilContainers and Tools

To maintain the effectiveness of thegrease, it is crucial to avoid cross-contamination of the oil containers andtools. Contamination can degrade the grease’s performance, increase waterabsorption, or reduce the reliability of the equipment. Close attention shouldbe paid to the management of the entire grease filling process to ensurecleanliness of tools and containers.

3. Clean Oil Ports and Tools

Before adding or replacing grease, makesure to clean the containers and tools thoroughly. The oil ports on theequipment must be cleaned to prevent any residual materials, dust, or debrisfrom entering the system. This helps avoid negative impacts on the lubricationperformance and reduces the risk of equipment wear.

4. Consider Special Needs forHigh-Temperature Environments

In high-temperature environments, regulargreases may not meet the equipment’s requirements. In such cases, specialtygreases are essential, as they provide superior lubrication and help extend thelifespan of the equipment. The excellent performance of heat-resistant greasesin extreme conditions is closely related to their specific composition, allowing them to maintain stable lubrication under harsh working environments.

5. Plan the Grease Replacement CycleAppropriately

It is important to determine the greasereplacement cycle based on the actual operating conditions and workload of theequipment. Reliable lubrication should be ensured, even when no obvious greaseconsumption occurs. Both excessive and insufficient grease can cause problems.Too much grease may lead to excessive temperatures and increased friction, while too little can result in dry friction and equipment damage. Generally, the appropriate amount of grease should be about one-third to one-half of the rollingbearing's clearance volume. However, under certain circumstances, additionalgrease may be needed to ensure adequate lubrication.

6. Proper Storage of Grease

Grease should be stored in a sealed, cool, and dry place, away from direct sunlight and humid conditions. It should not bestored in wooden or paper containers, as these materials are prone to absorbingmoisture or contaminating the grease, which can affect its performance.Additionally, grease intended for use in winter should not be used in summerequipment, and vice versa, as temperature changes may alter the grease'sproperties.
